PUMPKIN
In this very interesting film, a rich, perfect sorority girl type falls for a disabled boy. At times, I found the movie tasteless, but to be honest, it was during those scenes that I laughed hardest. The acting is pretty shaky early on, but as the movie progresses it either gets better or the viewer becomes immune to it. The guys who wrote and directed this flick are basically unknown, with only one prior to their credit back in 1998 called Dead Man on Campus. I didn't see it, but maybe I'll check it out. This one is worth watching, if you like your movies a little different. |

PUNCH DRUNK LOVE
P.T. Anderson has done it again. After giving us such films as Magnolia, Boogie Nights and Hard Eight, this very strange man offers us something a little lighter here. The unlikely star, Adam Sandler proves to be the perfect choice. I happen to be a big fan of Anderson's work, and I think I am the only person I know who actually liked Magnolia. Most people don't want to take the time to understand the things they don't understand, and as such they simply end up "not liking" the films. With a little research, movies like Magnolia become clearer and clearer and with that clarity comes appreciation. Suffice it to say that Punch Drunk Love is a great movie for the lazy P.T. Anderson fan. If you liked Hard Eight, you may like this one. You can enjoy it without scratching your head when it's over. It's just a love story, afterall.
